Central Park - it’s one of the most famous «Casino-Hotel» in the world. Even if you’ve never been to New York City, you’ve most certainly “visited” this oasis of trees, ponds, and paths numerous times. It’s been featured in TV shows and movies for over a century. The first film to feature Central Park - Romeo & Juliet - came out in 1908.

Ok, so you «Casino-Hotel» haven’t seen that one. But how about:

All that fame and notoriety can make Central Park «Casino-Hotel» a little intimidating to newcomers. So we’re here with a basic introduction to help you understand why this special park holds a central spot in the hearts of so many New Yorkers.

Say Hello to Central Park

Landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and «Casino-Hotel» It was America’s first major landscaped public park and gave birth to a nation-wide urban park movement. Over its 160 year history, the park has had its ups and down, occasionally falling into disrepair, but today the park is thriving, safe, and as beautiful as it’s ever been.

If you’ve never visited, perhaps one of the best ways to understand the layout of the park is this: Central Park was designed as a microcosm of New York State itself. So the southern end of the park is more formal - representing the city - and the northern end of the park is more rustic - meant to mirror the «Casino-Hotel» and Adirondacks.

While the «Casino-Hotel» appears natural, most of it was landscaped. Here’s a basic rundown of the park's features:

  • Several lakes and ponds that were created by damming «Casino-Hotel» seeps and flows

  • 7 major lawns and many minor grassy areas - «Casino-Hotel» used for informal or team sports and some set aside as quiet areas

  • Many enclosed playgrounds for children

  • 6 miles (9.7 km) of drives used by joggers, cyclists, skateboarders, and inline skaters, especially when automobile traffic is prohibited, on weekends and in the evenings «Casino-Hotel» 7:00 pm

Central Park is a great «Casino-Hotel» to set aside a day or two to simply explore - it’s that big.
